Introduction - Begin Here

One of the most revered texts of Tibetan Buddhism, The Thirty-seven Verses on the Practice of a Bodhisattva, was composed in the fourteenth century by Gyalse Ngulchu Thogme. This concise yet profound poem is comprised of 37 shlokas or verses is widely known throughout the Tibetan world. Over the centuries it has been of great benefit to countless practitioners.

Much like the "Yoga Sutra" which is a distillation of prior yogic thought which came before it, so the 37 Practices is a distillation of Shantideva's "The Way of the Bodhisattva" and has become the subject of many, many teachings and commentaries by the great masters of all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

Now Durga Devi is offering her own understanding, combined with the wisdom which she has gained from many years of yoga practice and offers us a fresh and simple, yet deeply profound understanding for those of us that live in the real world today.

5 Months in the Making

These 37 Videos which follow here, were filmed over 5 months from the very beginning of June 2020 through October 2020. The first of the practices were titled "day 1", "day 2", etc. As they evolved we considered that perhaps each "practice" might be contemplated over many days, so as time went on, we began titling the episodes "practice 3", "practice 4", etc.

Please know that it is our sincere wish that you take your time and not rush through these. Take time to consider and contemplate each practice.

We suggest that you have a journal to take notes and to write your thoughts down. Even though the practices are broken down into days, such as "Day 1", "Day 2", etc., you do not need to listen and reflect on these teachings each day one after the other. Take your time to fully assimilate and understand these teachings.

Important Note: You must go through each practice sequentially and have watched the entire video before you are able to proceed to the next!

Listening to each practice sequentially allows you to see how the teaching build upon each other. Take your time. You may find that to fully embody and have time for reflection of each practice, perhaps one lesson each week may be better. Give yourself time to assimilate each lesson fully before moving on to the next.

Journal and meditate on how you can put these lessons into action in your life in your own unique way. Over time, as you listen again and again, you will gain new and fresh understandings of the practices. But, keep it simple. Do not try to over analyze the teachings. Let them wash over you and allow yourself to be bathed in the words.

Over time we will come back to each teaching with new audio, video and textual content for more in depth understandings. In this way, the course will remain alive and fluid.

Enjoy your journey through these 37 Practices of the Bodhisattva as we have in the filming of them.
